COOKIE POLICY

This Cookie Policy explains how The Lasting Echo Kft. (seat: 1016 Budapest, Hungary, Naphegy utca 21. 2. em. 1A. a.; company reg. nr.: 01-09-363191 in the registry of the Budapest Capital Regional Court), the operator of the LastingEcho platform (the "Company", "we", "our" or "us"), uses cookies and similar technologies on the website available at www.thelastingecho.com and its language versions (the "Service").

This Cookie Policy forms part of the Company's legal documentation and should be read together with the Privacy Notice and the Terms and Conditions. Capitalised terms not defined here have the meaning given to them in those documents.

Effective date: 5 September 2026.

What cookies and similar technologies are

A cookie is a small text file that a website stores on your device through your browser. On each further visit the browser sends the cookie back, which lets the website recognise your session, remember choices you have made or keep you signed in.

Similar technologies include browser storage (such as local storage), which keeps information on your device without sending it to us on every request. Where this Policy refers to cookies, it also covers such technologies unless stated otherwise.

Legal framework and consent

Under Article 5(3) of Directive 2002/58/EC (the ePrivacy Directive), as implemented in Hungary by Section 155(4) of Act C of 2003 on Electronic Communications, cookies may be placed on your device only with your consent, except where they are strictly necessary to provide a service you have explicitly requested. Any personal data processed through cookies is handled in accordance with Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (GDPR) and the Privacy Notice.

The cookies the Company itself sets are all strictly necessary, so no consent is required for them. Optional content and technologies are grouped into the categories below and are used only after you have switched the relevant category on in the cookie notice. Nothing is pre-selected, "Reject all" is offered alongside "Accept all", and access to the Service does not depend on your choice.

  • Third-party media — composition previews embedded from YouTube (see "Third-party content and resources").
  • Analytics — usage statistics. Not in use at the effective date of this Policy; if introduced, such tools will run only for visitors who have switched this category on.
  • Marketing — advertising or remarketing tags. Not in use at the effective date of this Policy; if introduced, such tags will run only for visitors who have switched this category on.

Your choice is recorded on your device (in browser storage, not in a cookie) together with the date and the version of the notice, and it is valid for 12 months, after which we ask again. You can change or withdraw your choice at any time through the "Cookie settings" link in the footer of every page; withdrawal takes effect immediately for content not yet loaded and on the next page view otherwise. Withdrawal does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before it.

Strictly necessary cookies

These cookies are required for the Service to function. They do not track you across other websites and are not used for advertising. Blocking them in your browser will prevent you from signing in, completing an order or keeping your language choice.

Stripe acts as an independent controller for the data it collects for fraud prevention. Its privacy notice is available at https://stripe.com/privacy.

Browser storage

The Service keeps a small number of entries in your browser's local storage. They stay on your device, are never sent to the Company and contain no personal data. They are used to:

  • record your cookie choice so the notice is not shown again;
  • remember that you have already seen an introductory message, for example after scanning an Echo Plaque;
  • remember where you stopped watching a Life Echo Video so it can resume;
  • keep the layout of your family tree and the list of condolences awaiting your approval on your own dashboard.

You can remove these entries at any time by clearing site data for www.thelastingecho.com in your browser.

Third-party content and resources

Embedded composition preview (consent required)

Some pages can show a preview of a musical composition hosted on YouTube. The preview is embedded in YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com) and is loaded only after you have switched on "Third-party media" (or chosen "Accept all") in the cookie notice, or when you deliberately open the preview yourself by pressing "Listen to a preview". When the preview is loaded, YouTube (Google Ireland Limited) receives your IP address and may store information on your device in accordance with its own privacy policy at https://policies.google.com/privacy. If the category is off, the preview is not loaded.

Fonts and icons

The Service loads supplementary fonts from Google Fonts (fonts.googleapis.com, fonts.gstatic.com) and flag icons from the jsDelivr content delivery network (cdn.jsdelivr.net). These providers receive the technical information needed to deliver the files, including your IP address. They do not set cookies through the Service.

Links to other websites

The grief-support articles contain links to books, films, podcasts and organisations on other websites. Those websites have their own cookie practices, which this Policy does not cover.

How to manage cookies

You can change your choice for each optional category at any time through the "Cookie settings" link in the footer. You can also delete or block cookies through your browser settings; instructions are available in the help pages of your browser. Because the cookies listed above are strictly necessary, blocking them will prevent signing in, ordering and keeping your language choice.

Changes to this Cookie Policy

The Company may amend this Cookie Policy where reasonably necessary, including to reflect changes in the Service or in Applicable Law. The latest version is always available through the Service and indicates its effective date. Where a change introduces a cookie that requires consent, we will ask for your consent before setting it.
